CA oil pressure

Here recently, my father pushed a CA into the shed to work on. The motor was stuck. Once we got the stuck pistons out, he told me that he would pay me to put it back together. I put new piston rings, gaskets, points, plugs, carb kit in the carb, honed the sleeves, ground the valves, ground the seats, and just finished putting it together tonight. I got it started, but it don't show any oil pressure. This is the first A-C tractor I've worked on, but I've been told that where the oil filter goes, the little tube has to be there to have oil pressure. The little tube is in there like it is supposed to be. I still have the valve cover off and the oil pump is getting oil up to the rocker arms and there to the bottom of the oil filter. Does anyone else have any ideas for me to try or knows what is wrong? Thanks in advance.

I went back down to the shed and I put on a different oil pressure gauge. This time it showed oil pressure, but not a lot. I shut it off and then restarted it, but it then showed even less oil pressure. Any ideas as to what is causing this? Thanks in advance.

What brand of oil filter do you have? The new NAPA filters and some of the other brands are no good. There has to be the proper amount of resistance in the filter to have good oil pressure. I believe Fram filters are ok but I don't know the # off hand. I only use Aggco filters myself because I know they work. A lot of guys have had this same problem. Hope this helps.

The oil filter I put on it is a Napa. A New Holland dealership just opened up in a local town and they also carry AGCO parts, so I'll probably be able to get one there. Also, since it now is showing some oil pressure, is it alright to run it some with the Napa filter until I can get an ACGO or Fram filter? The old one I took off was a Fram.

It is probably OK to run it, but I wouldn't, why take a chance? The filters that will work are the ones with a perforated metal bottom with cloth waste visible above it and a wood dowell, about the size of the steel tube on the filter base, up the center. Remove the wood dowell befor use.

The fram filter # is C159 have used them for years with no trouble.

the oil filter is very restrictive and builds up pressure on its inlet. if you have an element with paper inside, or pleated cloth, it will show no pressure. The filter should be packed with a cotton material, very dense. There are several brands of "bad filters" during the last year on the market. -----for your info, the filter does not filter the oil going to the bearing like an automotive engine. the oil pump puts out 80% of its oil thru the cam shaft and sprays lube to the crank and connecting rod bearings. 5% of the oil goes thru the little tube to the top end and lubes the rocker arms and cam shaft. if you have oil onto the cam, you are in good shape. 15% of the oil goes thru the filter, reads on the gauge, and is dumped back into the crankcase after filtering, not to the bearings.----- change the filter.--another note, there was a plug and washer on the end of the cam shaft with a spring. this is the "relief" and will keep the pump from buinding up over 15 psi on the gauge. a good motor will have 12 psi. a worn motor will have 5-6 psi (at 2/3 throttle).

If cam bearings are worn the pressure to the gauge will drop precipidously.
