Allis Chalmers #9 Disc Harrow

Yes, mine have that angle also in the area where the scraper may contact the disc. I don't know if new ones have that angle or not. I didn't show it on the diagram because I thought it was caused by wear due to the scrapers rubbing against the disc over time. There certainly is no bend; just an angle that could easily be ground with a hand grinder if you desire. If so, yes, half would have to be ground on one side and the other half on the opposite side. I am not sure if it is necessary though. Some of my scrapers are obviously worn down due to rubbing. See this one:

It's not in good alignment either :o). Others are no longer hard up against the discs, probably due to weakened springs, but still have that angle on 'em. I doubt this is unique to the AC #9 harrows but is probably the same for others also. Perhaps someone who knows what new scrapers look like will clarify if they start out life with that angle. In any event, I don't think it would take long to wear 'em down if they are used.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry, I probably did not explain myself clearly. I know what you are refering to, but my scraper actually has a bend about half way down the steel. I would guess it is at about 5 to 10 degrees. My thoughts were that this allowed room for the scraper not to touch the disc. If I mounterd it to the frame with no angle, it looked like it would drive directly in to the disc and not allow it to function properly. Should the scraper fit tight up against the disc? By the looks of the picture, it should. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for all your help. My guess is that the scraper somehow got bent accidentally or purposefully because the one that was left on the disc did not even reach the disc blade. Thanks again! Tom
