I used Hi-Tack to glue the end gaskets to the block, when I did mine. You can get it at any parts store. works real well, brush it on both surfaces, let air dry a minute, then attach. It's pretty much a contact cement when used in this manner, and really holds well. I used a small amount of silicone (ultra-blue) in the corners, I know some will kringe on that, but being in the automotive industry for years, and doing this on lots of engines, it works for me, and have no leaks. good luck.

Not trying to rile anybody but any good mechanic will tell you that silicone or "blue glue" has no place with cork gaskets. Reason being is that silicone is also a lubricant and when you attemp to tighten the pan the gasket it will squeeze the gasket out. Next time buy your gasket or set at AGCO. As a matter of fact you will save a ton of aggrivation by getting one now. Not only are they fair priced but they are made of better materials AND they come with the little metal clips the factory used to hold the end pieces in place, a far better way than any glue. If you straighten the pan rails per the manual you can use a gasket cement (not to be confused with sealers) to stick the side gaskets to the pan with the ends (very important!) over the top of the end corks which are held by the clips. Never cut the corks they should stick up about 1/2". A small dab of #2 permatex seals the corners where sides meet the corks and nothing is used between the gaskets-corks and block. Never a leak, never a problem when the manual suggestions are followed and AGCO gaskets are used.

Dave, This is funny as just last night I did my D17, which is the same, and after reading my service manual it wasn't bad. It says to moisten the cork (with I assume water but could be oil) and put inside a tin can for a while to form the curve. I would use a can of smaller circumfrence than the oil pan as it will try to straighen out some. Then I used silicone gasket goo to hold in place. If you use oil the "blue goo" may not hold where with water and let it dry should work better. Roger

TAKE THE CORK GASKETS AND PRE GLUE THEM AND PUT SOMETHING ON ONE SIDE OF THEM TO HELP FORM THEM I USED A ROUND FENCE POST AND LEFT PRESSURE ON THE GASKETS A DAY UNTIL THEY FORMED TO THE ROUND RADIUS OF THE PAN THEN INSTALLED WITH NO PROBLEMS
