Is the 7000 a good tractor? Local dealer has one on lot for 7500. What are the good points and bad . Thanks

The 7000, whether power-shift or power director transmission is a good tractor. If you are looking at a maroon belly, I would say the hydraulic pump, which is external, can have difficulty with age and in cold weather picking up suction. This supplies the power shift clutches and powersteering. SO you wont be going anywhere if the pump gets weak. But they can be rebuilt or replaced, can be pricey. The hydraulic filter is internal also. The cab, if so equipped, is angled inward at the top, so if you drop one of the rear tires in a hole, watch your head!! my $0.02

My son has one. I drive it a lot in the summer using a haybine, chopper, and hay baler. In my opinion it is a good tractor. They are short wheelbase and therefore short-turning and very handy. The bigest weakness is the lack of power disc brakes. His is a maroon belly. In my opinion, $7500 is not too much if the tractor is in good condition. The 7000 also does not have load-sensitive hydraulics, but this is generally not a problem, as today there is not much need for them.
