Don't do anything irreversible to your shafts. The belt pulley takes a leather seal #7245 which is still available. For the PTO use #40162S (use 2 turned back to back. I believe both are Federal Mogul brand. Any real bearing shop can order them for you. Note the 40162S is a thinner rubber type, but with a fairly flat face to the seal. Using 2,the inner(facing outward)will allow just enough oil through the groove to keep from gouging out the seal and the outer (facing inward)will keep that little bit from ever seeing the light of day. Luckily, my trans still has the factory seal which is good. Can't help you there, but if you find a bearing man that can tell you what I just did, trust him. By the way, the factory seals only had a single number on them like "15" for the assemblers.

Hi Dave,

Steve is correct. You should be able to get most any seal at a local bearing supply house, especially if you have the AC part number that can be cross-referenced. He is also correct on the PTO and belt pulley seals. I handled the problem with the belt pulley seal by using a "speedi sleeve". Details of that replacement are here.

you can also buy them at a local bearing house such as Motion Industries, Berry Bearing, etc. Look in the yellow pages under "bearings" in your area. To do this you will need the seal numbers, not the tractor model. I have a list of the seals i can e-mail you if you want. One big problem is the pto and belt pulley seals. present are leather/felt and there is a grove to pull oil into the seal for lube. you will not want this with a rubber seal. some guys sue a ready sleeve to slide over the shaft and cover the grooves. if you are apart, i have turned the area down on a lathe to eliminate the grooves and go to the next size seal. either works.
