I have a WD that has the wd-45 shifter on it. It will not stay in 3rd gear. I can hold it there but it will jump out as soon as I let go. Is there any difference in the WD and 45 shifters? Thanks, Ricky

Your problem is probably in the dogs that engage the gear and the gear. Worn from use. The shifter does not really hold it in gear. WD shifters with the curved lever would be the same. The straight shifter would be different as it shifted gears not dogs as in the later transmission that you have. Looks the same, but different inside. I think you need a new third gear and the dog that engages it. I always wondered if these could be recut to remove the worn rounded off surfaces that cause them to jump out of gear. It would increase backlash a bit but probably not enough to be noticable.
