i bought wd45 with m&w pistons one rod damaged a piston on the lower side of the skirt . can the piston be welded and macchined smooth so i ccan reuse it over again these m&w pistons are very rare i been told

Keep the risks firmly in mind if you weld it. If the piston comes apart, then you could ruin the crank, block, head or even more. Best thing to do if you intend to keep the tractor is to rebuild it now with new sleeves, pistons, rings, inserts, etc.

I'm no mechanic, but I would be wary of and "fill and buff" cure. Whenever you weld or fill a metal surface, you change the characteristics of the metal. I would suspect that this would cause uneven expansion/contraction as the metal warms up.

Give it a try, but you may end up replacing the pistons and sleeves - something you would be doing anyway.

I dont know how far up the skirt its damaged. If its not far up, you might get away with smoothing it over with a buffing wheel. But make sure its not cracked. I would get someone who can really look at it (GOOD engine machinist). I have a 340 Chrysler engine in my race car that had a rod let loose by the previous owner of the block itself, and it knicked the bottom of the block but its still good. If the piston wasnt busted up too bad I would maybe consider it. The skirt of the piston is probably the only part of the piston I would "let go" with damage of any kind. Ive seen pistons for stroker race engines that practically dont have skirts!

By the way, I didnt specify, but i would certainly NOT weld on the piston! It most definitly would change the metallurgy of the piston.
