Hi Dave,

Well, it all depends on who you want to believe :o). Also, what you personally like, unless you are trying to please others. Check this out for at least one researcher's opinion. Scroll down until you get to the rear wheels. I have heard black, orange and silver as in that write-up. I have also heard of some rare green ones, presumably direct from AC that way. I prefer the orange for my '42B but that's because I like the look of the orange. I guess most others like the looks of the silver or galvanized since that seems to be what most of the Bs and Cs seem to wind up with regardless.

From what I undestand the wheels were originally galvanized, But due to effects of the years most are painted silver now.

My '39B shows absolutely no indication that there was ever any galvanization on the wheels. Clearly, all I have is rusty orange paint. My B is in restoration state. When I get started painting and mounting new tires, I'll be painting everything orange. --JPM

The wheels on my 1938 B serial # 8543 were black. I bought 2 new front wheels (intl A's use the same wheel) I painted them silver for looks only. For the wedge bolts , I used grade 3, 7/16 bolt. I heated the bolt head and forged the square wedge. They're not perfect, but they keep the wheel on. Some day, I'll get a Bridgeport and make some nice ones. Regards, Rich
