broken exhaust stud on head

was taking out stud opn wd45head on exhaust side with heat and stripped one off started with aone sixteenth drill bit which broke of in in the studs center for a perfect alingment for the easy out i cant get the drill bit out iknow you cant drill an existing drill with adrill bit any one have agood idea

hello Larry. as a machinist for about 30 years now there are a couple ways to go. if you can get access to a tap burner/EDM machine you can burn out the drill without damaging the broken stud and redrill it. if not MSC industrial supply sells carbide drills that will even drill out a broken tap. these things don't even really look like drill bits but they work. they should however be run in a rigid setup, bridgeport or drill press. fairly high rpm. carbide doesn't like to flex. it will fracture easily if not in a rigid setup. greg

at work the machinist have a set of concrete carbide bit drills (3/16 or 1/4 inch) they sharpen them up like a bit for steel and drill out broken bolts, etc. might try that.
