D15 Series II -- Thunking Noise --Crankshaft Endplay?

I just purchased a D-15 Series II at an auction. When we got it home we found that it had a fairly new clutch in it, but it was misadjusted and continually riding the throwout bearing. We readjusted the fingers from below and now it works fine.

At certain engine speeds there is a dull thunking noise coming from the clutch area. The crankshaft appears to have 30-40 thousands endplay instead of the specified 8 thousands. Was wondering that if a certain RPMs the crankshaft could be hunting back and forth. Seems like the misadjusted clutch may have caused the thrust main bearing to wear out. The flywheel seems tight

Haven't pulled anything yet to see how it sounds under load. It has good oil pressure, running on the high end of normal. The hourmeter only shows about 2500 hours and seem to work.

Any suggestions as to what can cause the thunking noise? The noise goes away when the clutch is stepped and only seems to do it at certain RPM's. I was going to pull some of the covers and look in the belt pulley cover to see if anything is wrong in there.

Anyone know a good place to get main bearings?
