Hi all

Been a long time viewer of this forum and now i need your help. I just recently bought a 7010 with a powershift transmission I was told everything was in working order that the machine needed to be cleaned up and possibly a engine overhaul -- the engine is extremely smooth running the one day i had it running the problem is this. According to the manual your supposed to the put the range in park and the gear in neutral depress the clutch to enagage the saftey start switch then turn the key and press the start button.. all this said I recived a call from the dealer i bought the tractor from and they said the gear needed to be in reverse (not sure why) either way i can not even get the engine to crank

Is there any other saftey switches that are required to be depressed?

Has anyone else ran into this problem and what was your work around I would rather not bypass the saftey switch however for testing purposes that is my next thing to do.

I really appreciate your help and look forward to your responses I have alot of work to do on this fine machine so i may be a bit more talkative on the forums..

Check the interlock switch on the PTO also. Have had the wiring harness come unplugged from that switch a time or two---won't start.

The owners manual I have says to put the range selector in nuetral in park, and depress the clutch. It does not mention anything else. I would check the neutral switch.

It was the startup saftey switch that was bad -- Thanks for the response Joe!

This series are great tractors. The 301 is good on fuel, power shift or power director are both really good. The power director is a bit more "inconvenient" to shift, but it is a good tranny. The price is a bit high for that many hours, but not bad. The '81 should have most of the bugs worked out of it! (The maroon bellies had a few probs. e.g. engine driven hydraulic pump can be problematic: gets weak and wont pick up suction in cold weather) But I, as an owner of a couple AC's of this series do recommend them!! Good luck :-)

George -

I'm no expert but the obvious things I would check for are

Oil leaks -- how bad a little here and there should be expected imho

the engine should have a smooth "purr" due to the turbo at full throttle

check that the transmission smoothly engages (note you should do the test at min rpm of 1800)

note any warning lights -- see if there is a maintenance log (tell you if the previous owner cared about the machine)

check the oil levels

Look for excesive electrical tape "wads" might be a source of a short or some other odd electrical problem.

engage pto should be smooth if possible have hydrualic's pressure tested

and note the overall appearance of the machine.

at 6000 hrs you should expect to plan on a overhaul depending on the performance of the motor.

I know this is not complete but its a start maybe some of the other posters can add to this list.

Good luck -- I knew getting into mine there would be alot of work ahead but im very happy with my purchase and can not wait until im finished with it..

this series is one of the best that allis made.. From what i have read and been told by other farmers.

Regards,

Bill
