Can someone please explain the traction booster to me on a D17? My owner manual shows the location, but doesn't go into what it does or how to use it. Thanks in advance.

The traction booster is used with mounted or semimounted implements (either snap coupler or maybe three point if your tractor is a Series IV). As the draft load on the implement increases, the system automatically adds implement weight to the rear tires without actually lifting the implement (for example it's like lifting with a 100# force on a 150# weight..it doesn't move up but you're carrying a lot of the weight). With this system you don't need to carry around extra cast iron weight on your tractor to burn more gas and compact soil when you don't need it, but you get effective weight automatically when you do need it. The Allis-Chalmers traction booster system works very well.
