visual difference between 190 and 190 XT?

Is there one you can see from some pictures? If not, what are the mechanical differences. Have a chance on a beat up "190" with a cab, new tires, runs and works for $3500. Just haven't looked at it yet - that'll be on Monday. Looks like a diesel manifold I can see on the right side of engine. Any help on what to look for as far as problems with these machines would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

As OLD stated it can get in your pocket pretty deep if the tranny and rear end have problems. I picked up an early 190 that had tranny problems. It turned out I needed all new bearings in tranny and rearend, several gears and tranny parts along with a ring gear and pinion and update kit. I paid $1800 for it and have over $2500 in parts. I even used some used parts. Check it out real good. They will make a nice machine. Good Luck, Kent

The precleaner was an option on 190 and 190XT. On the right side of the diesel engine tou would se the injector pump and the fuel filter. On a gas you would see the carburator. Check to see if it jumps out of gear. High tends to jump out when using engine to slow. Later tractors had larger axles. The series III also got the 4 pinion rear end which the XT needs.
The serial no for the XT's will have an X in it. DIesels have a D in the sn. (ex. XTD)

Most XT's had a precleaner on the hood. Other than that, the appearance differences are basically nil. Other differences include turbocharger, and engine and hydraulic oil cooler. When changes were made to the 190's, the XT's followed suit.

Well if its deisel a 190 is natual air intake and a 190XT is tubo. they did have problems with the tranny so look at that, if it jumps out of any gear jump away. I sold one this summer it was a 190XT nice tractor but way to big for what I needed. Auction list price for them is only $2500 so be ware it may not be as cheap as you think. Just as little of that been there done that help there nice if they work right but if not it cost BIG BUCKS to fix
