C weights - what do they look like?

I need some help from all you "Orange experts" out there. I have been told that my model C had weights made that fit under the front of the tractor. I attend a lot of farm auctions, and hope to find some, but I have no idea what they look like. Can anyone out there show me a photo or explain to me what they look like? Or maybe I should ask, is there another type of weight that I could make work. This is a working tractor and I think it will need the front end weight here in the hills. Opinions?

how about building a bracket for each side that bolts to the big holes in the clutch housing and hanging a suitcase weight on each side. you could even "push" the bracket forward and maybe tie it fromt he clutch housing to the front axle support bracket, then hang a suitcase weight on each side of the motor.

The weights pictured by Rod(NH) will work on a narrow front C; I have them on mine.

Hi Todd,

Here is what the engine side weights that aj is talking about look like:

I think these are the weights you are asking about. The picture is of a B but I believe the C used the same weights. There are also some front weights, at least for the B, that hang from the arched front axle. You can see the ends of those in the picture. I do not know if they were ever used on a wide front C or not. They would not work on the narrow front version.

Terry Dean's "Allis-Chalmers Data Book" has the side weights listed at 96 pounds each. I hope that helps.

My guess is about 80 pounds each, possibly a little more. A bit difficult to install by one person, but it can be done. In reference to aj's post below, mine are 22" long overall. I believe he is correct in saying that the similar ones for the CA are longer and would not fit your C. The ones for the B and C should be the same though. My left side weight for the B has a tapered portion on the lower part of the casting that does not exist on the right side weight. That is apparently for clearance with the steering linkage on the B. It probably doesn't make any difference on your C since the linkage is above, not below the weight.

They are really for use with the moldboard plows to help keep the front end down. They have to be removed when the belly sickle mower is used since the mower mounting uses the same bolt hole in the torque tube.

The front axle weight can be turned upside down and used on the adjustable wide front B, but the hole spacing is too narrow for the wide front C.

Yes they are the weights The main thing is the lenght. I guess that the CA's used the same type of weight but were a little longer. He needs to know the total lenght to beable to get the right ones. AJ

Todd, my fathers c is about an hour away so I am doing this from memory. They are about a 4" square about 18-24" long they hang from the rad. to the bell housing. I think that the front latches onto a bolt or something screwed into the rad. support bracket. and the rear end has a bolt hole wher the bolt passes thru the weight into the tractor. I also think that there is a threaded hole or 2 in the bottom for screwing in other attachments. seems like on one end they taper down to a dull point on one end also. I think that I have seen a picture of a tractor with the weights mounted either on ebay or Allischalmers dot com
