HAS ANYONE FOUND A GOOD REPLACEMENT FOR THE BUSHING LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 1" BELOW THE STEERING WHEEL IN THE STEERING TUBE? ANY SUGGESIONS?

What did you decide to do on the bushing? Did you find anything in McMaster? Let me know if you're still in need and I'll see what I can do to come up with a less expensive solution than what I previously stated.

I'm assuming this is the rubber bushing with metal insert like on a B or C. I replaced that bushing with a new one from A-C. It didn't work very well. I think that if I do another one of those (I actually have 2 CA's to restore for a customer) I will machine a bushing out of aluminum. The aluminum will still be softer than the steel steering shaft, so it will act similarly to the bushing, but it will be a positive fit to the outer pipe that the shaft runs through, so the wheel won't feel loose.

I'd be really happy to make an extra bushing like this for you if you would like. Email me at [email protected] if you're interested. I'll use one of the CA's here as a patttern and can send one to you within a few days.

FYI, I usually charge $35/hour for stuff like this plus materials. It will take an hour or so by the time I get it all measured out, etc. Depending on your shipping method, it could be $45 or so when we're all done. I checked the price of the rubber bushing and there is a Simplicity part that costs $8.00 plus shipping. I've tried this part and it still allows the wheel to wiggle quite a bit.


The original A-C Part #210475 is obsolete and not available.

buy a bronze bushing from McMaster Carr. you need to know the ID and OD of the bushings. can get them various lengths 1, 1-1/2, 2 inch long, etc. cost is cheap.
