My family recently purchased a buetiful 250 acre farm. We have 2 horses and are planning to get up to four head of beef cows so we can do our own butchering. We also are planing on getting more horses. I have been looking at WD 45s very seriously to purchase because we need an all-around good strong tractor to farm with. We have a Allis Chalmers B. and a CA. to do the small stuff but will a WD 45 be a good tractor for plowing, bailing, discing and many other farming needs. Hay and corn are what we plan on harvesting so we can feed our own animals. We do not plan on doing this for a living, we just hate to see this buetiful land go to waste. Please let me know what you think.

Thank you,

J. Dohl

On Our WD-45, We pull an International #37 Disc..it is 10'7" wide, and we use Duals....3rd gear anywhere... Probably would pull a little wider, but you DO need Duals...!!!

We farmed 200 acres of dairy, corn, wheat, oats, potatoes with a straight 1948 WD so a WD-45 should do even better. We did bale with a Rotobaler however and we liked thos type of round bales very much. Try to get the snap coupler implements, much easier to hook up and release than todays 3-pts!

That would depend on what type of baleing you plan to do, it will pull a sqaure baler but there aren't many round balers that it could pull. The WD-45 is rated at around 43HP. You might want to look for say a D-17 which is around 50 HP but a Wd does make a good small tractor and yes its bigger then the one you have now.

We plan on using a square bailer to do the hay. Also, do you know what the largest disc that a WD 45 could pull. Also, what is the price range on a D 17? Thanks for your time and thank you for responding to my other question. If there is any other info that you or anyone else might add concerning farming, I would appreciate it.

Thank again,

J. Dohl

The last D-17 I saw for sale was priced at I think $3250, but if you are doing square bales a WD-45 will work for you and as far a the disc. I'd say some where around a 6-7 foot would be about right and a 2 bottom plow

A 45 is a lot more tractor than a B or even a CA. and the hand clutch gives you live PTO and hydraulics.
