I am the PAUG (Professional AutoCAD Users Group) Librarian located in Denver, Colorado. I have been trying to help a fellow surfer find a 3-D drawing of a farm tractor. We were attempting to get the needed drawing for an animation that would be pulling the surfer's drawing. The surfer is in Croatia. John Deere decided that their drawings contained proprietary information and therefore could not help us after all. The demo CD is planned for a June production. I have included a portion of Darko Bogdan's letter regarding information requested by John Deere. His English is not perfect, but his ideas are clear enough. He assures me that his Croatian is much better. If you wish to e-mail him directly you can reach him at [email protected]. If you know of a different tractor company that would also be helpful. As I am not in this field (no pun intended) I am at a loss as to how to help Darko further. Any help would be greatly appreciated. >>> 1.The ultimate end use of 3D model is to put tractor in front of my machine, to show how the machine will work. I'll render the animation - purpose is to show the macine in action, and to find investors for manufactoring. 2. Deere's name will be declared in animation's prologue (or epilog) as resource (or owner) of 3D tractor model. I am not trying to steal anything, so I won't steal their rights neither. If there is something else they would like to know, or I have to do - Deere should tell me so, it is not the problem at all. 3. The best would be if model is made with 3D faces - they are my favourite modelling techinque. They are moderate in memory space, and small in resulting dwg files. It's a little bit difficult when modelling, but with two or three lsp tools - no problem at all. I use AutoCAD R14 + 3DStudio MAX, so any version of 3D object is applicable - I can translate almost anything made in 3D into 3D faces. So, if it is possible in any way - no 2D, please. Type of file can be any of Autodesk's standards (dwg, dxf, max, 3ds), with different layers if possible. 4. I need model that is recognizable as tractor. I think that this describes model the best. Of course, if there is more detailed model - better my animation will be. My basic idea is to have roughly coloured model (generaly, it could be coloured as real original, but it is not a must), with detached black tires, transparent glasses, stearing wheel and chair in cabin. No interior details are necessary, important are things you see from outside of tractor, without high details (I really don't need screws on the model). My aproximation is that all of the tractor model should fit in maximum 15-20,000 faces. Bigger model (more faces) could cost too much in rendering time, and there is really no need for it. If Deere can (or want) to give me finished, coloured model with applied materials - great, but I'm affraid that means high price and even longer delay, so I'll have to forget about it. Thanks in advance to Mr Teeple, you and all the people involved. I had no idea that it will take so long to get this model. On the other side, I have so many benefits out from it - I met some people willing to help to others, and it is great. <<<
