I bought my first A in 1959 and farmed with them into the 1970's. Allis Chalmers never built a more powerful farm tractor until the D21! Many
a story could be told of thoes old A's.

THe A is rare, 1225 copies from 1936-1942. WD45 production began in 1953 with serial nuber WD146607 and ended in 1957, 90,352 were made. Pound for pound the WD45 was one of the most powerful and popular tractors in that time period. Other than both being Allis-Chalmers, there is no comparison between the two tractors. If you can buy an A in any condition for $900 go to the bank, get the cash and take your trailer with you. If it is running you will be considered to be stealing. At that price there is nothing bad about an A.

If you have done major engine work or restored your tractor, chances are you removed the magneto and spark plug wires and eventually reached the point where you had to put it all back together and make it run. On our first cosmetic restoration, not having a manual, we carefully marked the wires, taped the magneto in the position it came off, and were careful not to turn the engine over while we had these components off.
