GOT THE OLD GIRL CA UP AND RUNNING TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME. AFTER 15 YEARS SITTING IN A SWAMP SHE SOUNDED SWEET. ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY PRESENTED ITSELF. THE MANIFOLD GASKET IS SHOT. SMOKE AND SOOT AND SPARKS COMING FROM EVERYWHERE BEHIND THE MANIFOLD. I HAD TO GRIND OFF THE MANIFOLD BOLT HEADS JUST TO REMOVE IT. ANY ADVICE ON THE BEST PLACE TO PURCHASE A NEW GASKET AS WELL AS REMOVING THE BOLTS FROM THE HEAD WOULD BE APPRECIATED. IN ADDITION DOES ANYONE HAVE A PREFERENCE ON NEW BOLTS AND WHAT IS THE PROPER TORQUE.

PB Blaster works pretty good for loosening up bolts or studs. Let it soak in a couple of days. You can also apply a small amount of heat to the head with a torch but be careful--not enough to crack the head. You can also put heat on the stud/bolt but don't try removing until it cools all the way to ambient temp. One of my favorite tools for removing studs or damaged bolts is a small (6") Rigid pipe wrench with a 16" long cheater pipe. Once you get a good bite on the stud the pipe wrench won't slip like a vice-grip will and the teeth are made from better steel and they don't wear down.

On the gasket, try local NAPA dealer. They may have to order it though. Or else try your nearest AGCO dealer.

James,another little trick is immediatly after heating the head up but before trying to loosen the bolt, put an ice cube on the bolt. This causes the bolt to shrink a tiny bit while heating the head causes it to expand a tiny bit.As Kevin said don't over heat the head.Sometimes this helps. Good Luck.
