I BOUGHT WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS A 1949 AC,NARROW FRONT WD, WITH A LOADER BUCKET. I FOUND A SERIAL NUMBER RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE GEAR SHIFTER. THE NUMBER WAS 200982. THIS SEEMS TO INDICATE THAT IT IS A 1955WD45? AM I LOOKING AT THE WRONG SERIAL NUMBER? IF I AM, WHERE SHOULD I BE LOOKING? IF ANYONE COULD HELP, I WOULD APPRECIATE IT. GREG

The serial # is on the left side of the differential housing, starts with WD then the number.

Thanks for the information,Brian. I am really a tractor dummy. Would that be visible from on top, or due I have to crawl underneath the machine? You wouldn't happen to have a picture, would you?
Thanks again for the info.

More specifically, look for a machined "boss" on the vertical surface of the LH differential/brakehousing between the brake spring hole and the brake adjusting bolt/locknut. The number will be stamped into the metal (sometimes rather faintly) and will begin with the letters WD.
