wd Frontends

I have a 1950 wd with a adjustable wide frontend on it. I would like to know if anyone could tell me if there is a lighter frontend i could put on it.Thanks Vance

Hi, I would find the exact wieghts before I tore it off and sold it. I am not sure of the exact numbers, but there is less than 100# difference between the 3 bolt WF and 2 wheel NF, main reason is the heavy casting used in the NF tower. Also, be sure to check around at prices for the WF before you trade it for a NF, NF are a dime a dozen, and I have seen 3 bolts(WD) go for up to 500.

You could switch the wide front for a narrow front. The switch is easy to do. If you need a narrow front and are close to southern WI I have a narrow front I will sell/trade.

Mine is the two wheel narrow front. I am not sure what the weight differenc might be. When I switched one awhile back I was able to carry the narrow front(minus tires) by myself. [email protected]

Greg I think I am going to try to find out what the one wheel front weighs and if one is light enough maybe get one and sell the wide front i have on it now.There is noughting wrong with the one i have. I am just trying to light up the front.

I understand what you are trying to do, and I do not have any info on the weights of the different front end configurations, but I wonder, Do you have any idea how rare the single front wheel front end is?

Of the 146,125 WD's produced, only 1,074 had the single front wheel, which comes out to a little more than 7 tenths of 1 percent. If you include the WD45's (which would fit your application), of the 83,536 WD45's produced, only 824 had the single front wheel, this comes out to about 9 tenths of 1 percent.

I'm not saying it's not possible to find a single front wheel front end to swap into yours, but I think it will be like trying to find that veritable needle in a haystack.

P.S. In your endeavors to shed weight for the purpose of tractor pulling in a lighter class, have you removed the fenders? Also, have you removed the PTO drop box and shaft assembly? You could replace the dropbox with a block-off plate to retain the hydraulic fluid. Just a suggestion.

I'd guess that a 1 wheel isn't gonna weigh any less than a 2 wheel. The sngle used some pretty heavy castings for the yoke around the front wheel. Don't have any information, but I'd guess a single is going to be just as heavy. Just curious, why is front end weight so crititcal?

Aaron SELA Well i took my wd to a tractor pull and it weighed 3650. So i had to put it in the 4000 class. I couldn't get it to hook up. so i was just trying to think of a way to lighten it up. Well the back needs more weight. The front didn't even get light. So i was just kicking around the idea if i could lighten up the front i might get in a lower weight class the next time. The only other choice is to add weight too the back. It has good power so i gess i will try it and see what happens. It is only for fun . Thanks

This is the first I have ever heard of a WD being heavy in front. Every pull I have been in I have to try to keep the front end down. These tractors have always been light in front and I have used them since they first came out in 1948. I see lots of fellows with extra weights on the front to hold them down. Power has never been a problem, they will break traction, even with wheel weights and fluid in the tires, befor they run out of power.

hello vance, i have a 1951 wd with a wagner loader, the type of loader you see on the ford 8ns mostly.the wd is a nf. so, i have been looking for the easy fix to hard steering. awide front or a power steering addition. if, your other offers don"t work out ,i"m interested in purchase of the wide front. i"m sure we could work something out! frank
