IF THE HAND CLUTCH LEVER IS MISSING FROM A CA CAN THE TRACTOR BE STARTED AND OPERATED WITHOUT THE HOLE BEING CONVERED IN THE AXLE HOUSING? TRACTOR HASN'T RUN IN OVER 15 YEARS AND I AM CLOSE.

My suggestion to you would be to take the axel apart now and see what is in there and what shape it is in. If you plan on restoring this tractor you should do this now before you paint.

I say this because my father tried to skip this phase and is now in the midst of disassembling a fully painted tractor and trying not to mark it. Would have been much easier to do before we got the tractor painted.

Just looked in my book to see if its a dry clutch it is, so yes you could leave it open but you will get junk in there and maybe even a mouse or two. I'd go to an auto parts store and get a soft freeze plug and put in it just to stop mice and dirt wasps from makeing a mess it there. Hope this helps you

Its a big ole oblong hole just like the one on the other side that is always open. If ya think they need closein might I suggest duct tape ta keep the meeses out.
