Can a WD45 run a 50hp bushog

I am looking for a tractor that can run an offset bushog such as is used in orchards. These are not "batwing" type bushogs but they do have two smaller blades and set off to one side (to get under fruit trees). The manufacturer (Bushog) rates their offset bushog for 50 hp. tractors. The model assumes a 540 PTO. My understanding is the WD45 comes in between 40 and 45 hp. in the Nebraska tests depending on where power is measured. The WD45 was suppose to be a heavy duty work-horse tractor, but is a bushog that will wack up small tree limbs in tall orchard grass asking too much of the machine? The dealer thought that was operating on the ragged edge. Our neighbor tried to run one with a 30 hp John Deere and said it all but shook the tractor to pieces. If this is too much for a WD45, would a D15 do any better? I understand the D15 is a bit lighter duty machine but is about 47 hp. A D17 is about 55 hp. Do I need a D17 minimum?

I tried to run a 6' bush hog with my WD (35hp). It had enough power, but the casting for the PTO drive gear broke when I hit a ditch and the blade dug in and stopped quickly. This is a notorious weakness with WD's and '45's. The later 45's had reinforcement plates, but it's still risky. I switched to my D-17.

Does the dealer say if the 50 is the minimum or maximun for the tool? I would say a D series with the dual range would be your best choice and probably a 17 would be more than adequate. You may want to or need to load the off side tire. I use a 14 and use the lower range whenever I get into heavy stuff.

If you go a little slower than you won't need as much power to run the mower. A WD45 would do a lot of mowing in a day.
