wd motor or wd45 motor?

I have a 1950 WD but after reading the last couple of posts about the plate on the side of WD45 motor I do not know if I have a different motor because mine has a plate on the right side.
the # on the engine is Wd 246992Ga

I made stainless steel studs and used stainless nuts and washers.

Mike: I had a WD45D in which the engine went bad although the rest of the tractor was good. I also had a WD with a good engine but lots of other problems so the WD engine went into the WD45D chassis and the WD engine did have a access plate on the right side of the engine.The WD was a 1949 and the WD45D was a 1956, so parts interchange was good for those tractors .

Your serial number fits right in with those assigned in 1950 to the Wds. A WD block has a side cover over the pushrods and the number starts with WD. A WD-45 block has no cover on it's side and its number starts with 45-. I know of no WDs (late or not) that came from the factory with a WD-45 style engine. However, when all the WD replacement blocks were used up, A-C supplied the new style blocks as replacements. So....even tho a WD may have a WD-45 style block, there is no guarantee or easy way to tell whether or not it has the "45" innards. Incidently,replacement blocks came from the factory serial "numberless".

It is always good to know that all the parts for the WD-45 engine will fit the WD block, should you want to add that power to your WD..!!

The plate is on the side of a WD engine. The very last WD's had the no plate WD-45 engine.

Mike(MN), If it has the plate on the right hand side and the engine number starts with a WDXXXXX ,then it's a WD engine. If it is in fact a 1950 model (according to the serial number),it would have to be a WD,since the WD45 didn't come out until 1953. Hope this helps. Rick
