AC-C oil pump gasket

Last spring I puchased an Allis Chalmers C that was taken apart to restore. The owner gave me the new parts that he got for it which included a new oil pump. The box it was in had gotten wet and the outside of the pump was rusty, so I took it apart to clean it. It looked OK inside so I tried sanding off what I thought was rust on the mating suface of the back cover with some fine sandpaper on a flat suface. I found out this was really a thin paper gasket between the back cover and the main pump body. What sould I use to replace it? Maybe some wax paper? Thanks for any info anyone can send me,

the gasket is supposed to be of minimum thickness so the pump dont stick and drag. you assemble the pump shaft center shaft and leave the cover off. lay a straight edge across the end and see what clearance is. adda gasket about .002 thicker. normally this is a piece of paper like white typing paper. you might need a piece of construction paper on an old pump. not sure i would use "wax".

Steve, Thanks for the reply. I'll try a feeler gauge this weekend and see how much I need to clear it.
