a friend has aquired an allis chalmer tractor I have the serial # is there somehow I can find out what it is ?

Since you have the serial #...go to the column on the left of this page and look under Reserch & Info then click on serial numbers

I cant seem to find the serial # I have listed.All I really know for sure is that it has a hand crank.The serial # I was given from my friend is 3047347 It also has a type # J4B3.They were told it was a 1931 allis chalmer B But I am beginning to have doubts about that. Please help

B's were made from 1937 to 1957. If it's hand cranked it's probably a 1938 to 1940/41,or some where there abouts. The ser.# is located just in front of the shifter on the transmission. The letters are not stamped too deeply and are easy to misread. For instance, the 3 that begins your number may actually be the letter B which the serial numbers began with. Sometimes you have to look three and four or more times to get it right. I'm still not sure of one digit on my 1938 B. Regards, Rich

the B was not built till 1939. check the rear wheel diameter on the tire. IF it is 24 inch it is a B, if it 28 inch i is probably a WC if it is that old. Send me an e-mail and i will give you a picute of each to compare to. [email protected]

the serial number containes the model, in the first couple letters or numbers.

If it has 28 inch wheels and was built in the 1935-55 range it is probably a WC- WD- 45 and the serail number on on the rear axle.

If it has 24 inch rear wheels and built in the 1938-1958 range it is a B- C- CA and has no frame between the motor and rear end, just a round torque tube. Serial number by the trans shift lever.

If it was built in the 1960-70 era it is probable a D series 10-12-14-15 or 17 and the serial number is on the motor clutch housing left side juste behind the motor.

Like the guys said, get an idea of what you have, then punch in the model in the "tractor photo" area on the right of this page and look.
