I HAVE OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE A 51 ALLIS CA. ENGINE IS FREE WITH LITTLE COMPRESSION. IGNITION BOX, GENERATOR, FUEL BOWL, CHOKE ROD, COIL, LOWER RADIATOR HOSE, AND BREATHER CAP ARE MISSING. TIN IS OK AND BOTH FRONT WHEELS AND TIRES WILL NEED REPLACEMENT. TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK.

THANKS, JAMES

JAMES:
WHATS IT WORTH? THE RULE HERE IS SIMPLE. THE QUESTION IS NOT WHATS IT WORTH, THE QUESTION IS WHATS IT WORTH TO YOU. WILL THIS BE A WORKING TRACTOR OR A RESTORATION PROJECT. IF IT IS THE LATTER THEN IT PROBABLY IS A HOBBY IN WHICH CASE YOU CANNOT PUT A DOLLAR AMOUNT ON THE BENEFITS. JUST A REMINDER "ONE MANS TRASH IS ANOTHER MANS TREASURE." IN OTHER WORDS, WHAT ONE PERSON MAY SEE AS JUNK MAY BE JUST WHAT YOU NEED REGARDLESS OF THE COST.

I would say around a hundred or so. Low compression on a sitting motor is still an issue, plus you dont know condition of heads, such as valves and lifters. rings and bearings and oil pump considered also. When it comes to all the things that are missing (which is substantial, sounds like this was a parts tractor with not alot left on it), you cannot forget the time and resources to track these parts down, plus any glitches you run into while repairing or replacing. Tires are a major % of older small tractors, and then the time to prep for paint rewiring, decals and the paint itself, new gaskets and seals. The total value of course is inevitably left to you, 1 do you have time and resources 2 do you plan on working the tractor or collecting. When they are in that condition, I look at the following, what is all left that I could part and what could I get for them? I add that up and divide by 70%, the 30% is what I'd pay for time to dismantle and package, and to cover parts that no one wants that I have to get rid of such as tires, frame, rearend and such.

To me with all that is missing maybe $100 give or take a little with all that is missing it will cost at least $500 to $1000 to get it up and running

$300-$500. A good runner goes for $2000, I got my nice 52CA with a woods belly mower for $2500. Start there and deduct the cost of the needed repairs.

I agree with John. Start with the $2000 mark, he gave, then take off the value of what is missing, then take into consideration the condition of tires (especially the rear ones)devalue them in relation to new ones. Don't forget any dents and or rust in metal, and what you think the engine would take to get running. On the engine, if it hasn't been running for a wile the compression will be low because the cylinder walls are dry.
Good Luck
