How much more horsepower would a D-17 motor have than a stock WC, running the WC's factory rpm, 1575? thanks

Sorry it took so long. d-17 engine made 44 hp at 1350 rpm (WC stock/540 pto). with dyno's slide rule, was makeing 56hp at 1650rpm. thanks to all!

D17 engine is 226 c.i. WD45 is 226 c.i. WD and WC are 201 c.i. WD and WD45 were rated at 1400r.p.m. loaded while WC was rated at 1300 r.p.m. loaded. NATPA allows D17 speeds of 1720 no load for stock and 1892 no load for 10% over. If you are going to run stock WC r.p.m. 1625 no load, you should be only slightly less power than a stock WD45 depending on which comp. ratio pistons you use. Note WC WD WD45 D17 all are allowed D17 speed under NATPA rules. The biggest difference on the 4 engines is the main bearings are larger diameter and the thrust is taken at the center main on the D17. The other 3 engines have the thrust at the front main. The 226 engines also usually have a taller head and better spark plug placement in the cylinder. The WD45 and D17 blocks and heads are easily identified visually so you cant pass them off as a stock 201 c.i. I think that you would have close to the power of a stock WD45. good luck dan wc ne wyo

D17 stock high idle rpm is 1950 to 2000 not ant less.

How are you going to figure the power..?? Maximum TORQUE for the WC and WD, WD-45 was at about 800 RPM...!!

The D-17 could not be pulled down that low with the 7.4 to 1 compression, or it rattled bad...!! Pull that D17 at 800, like the WC will, and see how long it lasts..!! That was why the D17 had a high-low torque lever..!!

According to Neb Test the D17 outpulls most others in its HP class without running in the low drive. I have a WC with a D17 engine and have pulled it a couple times. It does outlug a stock WC and does not drop rpm as easily. That's running at stock WC rpms.

I agree with Allis Puller and Roger if you slow a D 17 down to WC speed it will make about the same HP as a WC. However it would be interisting to put it on a dyno and see

The rpm may make some difference but the where the h.p. difference is at is the 1/2" more stroke and the higher compression pistons.

Nebraska Test results from "A Guide to Allis Chalmers Farm Tractors" by Norm Swinford
WC 25.45 Belt hp 18.72 Drawbar hp at 1300 RPM
D-17 52.70 belt hp 48.64 drawbar hp at1650 RPM
I think by running the D17 motor at the slower rpm would hinder the hp. Roger
