Best AC Engine Rebuild Kits??

Looking to restore our 1951 AC CA that's been sitting 15 or more years, and need an engine rebuild kit. I've seen many different kinds, all mainly in the $550 range.

What have you used? What's good? What's bad? How do the kits advertised on this site compare with the rest?

I want the most bang for my buck, thought I'd get a common concensus.

I have used and sell a lot of TISCO engine kits. The Tisco engine kits are as good of quality as any other kit you can buy. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

Thanks, will probably use a TISCO. Found a guy with over 20 restored Allis's that says he can get the the total kit- rings, gaskets, pistons, sleeves, etc. for under $500. It may be a TISCO, but if it is I now know that I have no need for concern.

Whats wrong with the kits from Yesterday tractors?
The ones they advertise at the top of the page.

As far as I know there's nothing wrong with the kits from Yesterday's Tractors. That was one of the questions from my initial post. I wanted to know if anybody had used them and, if so, were they any good.

Do you have a website for Central Tractor?

OK Here You Are. There Are Many Sellers Of Engine Rebuild Kits, But Only A Few Manufacturers of engine rebuild kits. A lot of sellers sell the TISCO ( Tractor Implement Supply Company ) Kit. I have done several Allis engines and I find ( in my opinion } TISCO kits to be adaquate but not Superior or Above Average. I go to my ALLIS CHALMERS DEALER and buy dealer parts whenever I can. But be careful SOME dealers will just grab a TISCO catalog and try to sell you TISCO parts instead of FACTORY DEALER PARTS.

Hmmm...

We've got an AgCo/AC dealer two miles from the farm here. Nice folks but they tend to be a little pricey. We'll have to do some checking with them, but may have to settle for the TISCO.

was parts do you think you need? i disassembled two engines in the last few years. bought new rings, honed the cylinders, did a valve job, and readjusted the original crank and cam bearings. $60 for rings and $60. for gaskets. If you need a rebore and new pistons, etc, that adds up to $500 to go all the way. I would disassemble and see what you have first. I had a few thousandths clearance in bore by using the original pistons and liners, but dont figure on working it 1000 hours per year. Might get 100- 200 hours light duty use. Seemed like a good plan at the time and has worked so far. i did pull the liners, clean the water jacket, and install new o-rings on the original liners. thats a good idea.

Well, Dad had this engine completely apart 15 years ago. He couldn't afford the $700 to rebuild at the time, and put it back together. I was only 2 at the time, maybe younger, at any rate I don't remember it being apart.

I'll have to talk more with him about what it needed. I'm thinking just rings and gaskets (I HOPE!!) At least that's a start... It may need more. I checked its fluids and the oil looks good and clean, so that's a good sign!
