I have an Allis-Chalmers WD. I would like to install a 3-point hitch on it. I have the main lift arm and the hydraulic cylinders but not the lower lift arms and joints. Does someone have a picture you could send me of a 3-point on a WD? Also what is a snap coupler? Does anyone have a picture of one? Where can I buy the necessary components to build my 3-point? Where can I buy a snap coupler? I really appreciate any help you can provide me.

Ok Ron I Thought I Knew Something About Allis Chalmers But We Are All Here To Learn. What Exactly Do You Mean When You Refer To The Original Draw Bar " BAIL " ? Thank You For Your Reply.

The "bail" is the part that suspends the drawbar and is attached to the tractor by 2 pins, and the drawbar is bolted together so it "traps" the drawbar onto the bail.. AC tried to get all owners to update to the "snap-coupler". and release knuckles on the lift arms, for years.. If you have one without these, it is a GOOD idea to update to them..it is a BIG safety issue.... If that lower pin should come out while plowing the lift arms will NOT release, and the plow will dive into the ground, and swing up, hitting the tractor driver... The release knuckles will just unlatch, and dump the plow on the ground with no problem.. On my 3- point conversion, I use only the "bail", set up high, with the sway-chains bolted to a hole at each side of it... When lifted up, the "bail" centers the 3-point by fitting between the rails of the 3-point..

You should help let these guys know that the "Snap'Coupler" is an important safety device on the WD's...along with the snap-releases on the lift arms..!! A lot of fellas out there don't know how dangerous the old "Pin" hook up could be...

Thanks..!! Ron.

Martin,

I can send you some photos of the 3-point lift I installed on my D17. I also have an extra one I might sell too, but you're probably many miles away. Repost if you still need photos. I can also show you snap coupler pix too. Basically, a snap coupler is a bell-shaped receiver or housing that has a spring-loaded latch to allow backing up to an implement an hitch up without leaving the tractor seat. The implement has to have an eye or ring to connect to the latch pin inside the snap coupler. The early D series, WD and WD45 (and probably others) used this setup along with the two lift arms that also had spring-loaded latches to connect to the implement. Found this photo too:

There was a Snap-coupler on the parts auction just a few days ago.. Be sure to check the different types of conversions made for the WD's.. The one I like (and have)is the one that snaps right into the snap-coupler, and has two arms that reach up to the rear lift arms--(the "snap-couplers).. The original drawbar "bail" is used to attach the anti-sway chains.. They run about $300.oo and are well worth it, too.. The "top link" fastens to the center of the
lift arm crossbar..above the platform. I believe it is for Cat 1 Works really well, and is easy to remove.. Tri-Green, in London Ohio has them.. 614-879-7731

The Snap-Coupler is the bell-shaped housing under the tractor that the drawbar hooks in to. The lift arms have latches available for them- not anything to do with the term Snap-Coupler. There were at least two different systems to attach mounted implements to the lift arms. The early system was simply a cast sleeve on the implement that could be bolted or pinned to the lift arm. After that there was a spring loaded latch, possibly two or three versions.
