D15 help

Still trying to get my D15 started. Does cranck over once then it has a hard time doing it again. New battery, new plugs, wires, cleaned out the starter and all battery terminals, checked the valves, ok. Without the plugs in place it turns over good.
Please help.

You may find a service manual useful. Points should be just coming apart at Top Dead Center. That will get you started. Then you can 'fine tune the timing by ear while running. Some guys like to do this under load (hook up a grinder or something).

You may have a timing problem, that happened to me just the other day. When I tried to start a cletrac that I have it would turn over till it tried to fire then it would turn back ward for a little then not want to turn over any more. I had to retime it.

Florin, Do like Old said. With #1 cylinder on top dead center on the compression stroke and with the center mark on the fly wheel in the inspection port, place the distributor in the housing with the primary terminal toward the coil and with the rotor pointing to the #1 plug wire terminal. Point gag should be .022 and you should tighten distributor to housing when the points are juuuust starting to break. Fireing order is 1-2-4-3. If I haven't forgotten anything this should get you cranked. Check with light at 1750 rpm's and the fire mark should be in the inspection port if not adjust. HTHs Dale

The way I had to do it was pull 1 plug and get it up to top dead center and look to make sure that the rotor was at #1 tower on the cap
