Hello, I just got my CA home and am beginning the restore on it and have a couple questions. Where the dist/mag is supposed to go there is nothing but a shaft with a gear on the end of it. Is this for a magneto or a distributor?

If it has a shaft sticking out it would be the drive for a distributor. The mag just takes a timing gear with a notched boss on it.

I have CA 118, it has a mag on it. All my others are "51 or newer and have distibutors.

A SHAFT WITH A GEAR ON IT IS FOR A DISTRIBUTOR. A MAG WOULD HAVE A RECESSED COUPLING.
MY CA PARTS BOOK STATES THE STARTING WITH ENGINE SERIAL #149840 THEY USED DISTRIBUTORS. PRIOR TO THAT THEY USED MAGS. LOL WITH YOUR CA BOB
