While driving in third gear, heard a loud metallic "Bang" and the tractor came to an abrubt halt. The engine will run in neutral and with the clutch pedal depressed. The tractor will roll freely when in neutral. However, the engine will lug down and stop when in gear and clutch pedal is let out. I would appreciate any ideas on where to start looking for a solution.

You lost 3rd gear. Take the trans apart.

You may have blown the engine (foot) clutch. Sounds like something is jammed somewhere. I'd pull the tranny cover and see if you see any broken pieces, gear teeth, etc. Also remove flywheel cover on bottom of tranny and look at flywheel/clutch for anything busted. Drain tranny, look for metal parts. If you lock the foot clutch down can you then still move the tractor when in any gear? You just got to take a section at a time and isolate them. Will it roll in any gear with the hand clutch released?

the gear box is stuck in a forward gear and reverse what you do is take shifter out and use a long screwdriver to get back in nuetral.
