Bought 1952 CA a year ago - worked good for dragging trees out of woods. Now, have virtually no pulling power. So little, that can hardly get up a hill without a load. Is the problem with the Final Drive? Transmission? Any suggestions greatly appreciated, as have never done anything other than routine maintenance before.

Jerry, ASSUMING that everything else is in good working order (engine runs good etc.),It may be the final drive clutch (hand clutch). One way to tell is to put the PTO in gear and try to go up the same hill. If the tractor slows or stops and the PTO keeps running the same speed then it's the final drive clutch. If the PTO slows or stops then it's the foot clutch. If it's the hand clutch good luck on finding one. Mine is the same way and I haven't found one. I've looked everywhere I know to look, but no such luck. Someone told me to take it to a local clutch repair shop to be rebuilt, but I would hate to go to the trouble to take that thing out for them to tell me that they can't fix it! If worse comes to worse, I've been told that a left axel will fit on the right side. It won't slip, but you won't have the hand clutch (no live power). If you don't have a shop manual, I suggest you get one. Good luck, I hope that I have helped, Todd.
