I got a call this moring from a local man looking to scratch up some Christmas money...he wants to sell me his 1939 Allis Chalmers B. He said he's take $1,200 for it. The tractor is in good working order, new front tires, rear tires are not new, but are good, tractor started up this mroning on the 3rd crank (hand crank, no starter) & it's 15* out. PTO is in good shape, muffler is newer, metal is clean & straight, paint is faded. It has hand brakes which I'm not fond of, but they are opperable. Is this a good value for this tractor??

I have three B's and one c that I've parted out. If your heart is set on a B then it's a just barely a fair price. In my opinion. That being said I bought a non running C two years ago for $300. still I would say that it's at the very high end of the price range. A new torque tube with a starter hole will run about 100 and then a starter, battery box, foot brakes and generator, plus your time will give you what it sounds like you seek. You'll have about 2000 in it when you're done. I don't believe that year has the mounting holes for the hyd. So that will require another 500 for the rear casting. Don't get me wrong I love the B's and use mine on a regular basis. They are cheap to run and parts are still easy to come by. I would suggest that what the others have suggested is about right. The fact that you heard it run is worth a lot. When they don't run it a big guess as to how much money it will take. Make an offer for 5 or 6 hundred and unless you really want it walk away if they don't say sold. Good luck

i presonally would not pay $1200. starter makes the tractor mor valuable. Dont know if it smokes or uses any oil. If it is in good shape, decent tires, no smoke, but paint rough, I would guess $800 would be more than enough. Does it have teh hydraulic pump?? Not trying to rain on your parade, but, without the starter or hydraulics, i would not be interested for half of what he is asking.

I tend to agree with you, $1,200 seemd pricey, it doesn't have any hydraulics...I need another tractor like a hole in the head (I've got 5 now, 44' Farmall A, 49' Farmall C, 47' Massey Harris Pony, 40' Ford 9N & a 67' Ford)...funny, my phone always seems to ring when someone around here wants to get rid of an old tractor!!! I haven't ruled out buying it yet, I may go back & see what kind of cash money will buy it...

Thanks,
Josh

You still need a "B", just find a better deal. I've got Massey's, wanted something different. Been down in my shop all day tearing the 125 CI down. Gives me something to do when it's snowing.

By the way, I just bought two for $500 for the pair. Need alot of work but wouldn't appreciate tthem otherwise.

I understand they didn't have any electrics till '42. But I'm new to AC's so I could be wrong.
