I know you say you drained the "bulb" at tank, but have yoy taken the plug out of the bottom of the carb and drained gas from it, a lot, maybe a pint or more to see if the flow to the carb is steady and lasting? Tank or lines could have partial blockage.

If it idles, and WAS running good--and you are pretty sure the carb is ok, I would suspect weak spark...maybe old sparkplugs...??? Condenser....?? A piece of dirt in the power needle will lean out above-idle transition, too..

You could add some gas line anti freeze to the gas to get rid of any water if you feel that may be a problem. I use the stuff called ISO in the red plastic bottle. It is basically isopropyl alchohol. The other types use methanol which is corrosive if left in the tank for long. Did you try to adjust the main jet needle valve a little one way or the other to see if it helps?

I'd say you need to clean the carb maybe rebuild
