From time to time I've seen entire PTO "drop boxes" on Ebay. Although, I'd imagine it would be a heavy item to have shipped. You'll just have to keep your eyes open.

Is there a tractor salvage yard near you? I don't know where you are, but I'm near Grand Rapids, Mi., and I know of a guy who has a WD that he is parting out (I've bought parts from that tractor), and I'm pretty sure it still has the PTO box.

As for the WD45 box being stronger than the WD, I have one of each, and I can't tell the difference between the two. Also, the parts manual shows the same part # for WD and WD45; but a different (stronger?) part # for the WD45 Diesel. Not sure if the Diesel drop box would bolt up to a WD or a WD45.

Hope some of this helps,

Good Luck!

Good Day!

Smitty, We have family that live in GR. MI. My wife is from there originally, Where would the tractor parts place be? Perhaps a Brother in law could pick the part up for me.

Hey Bob,

I've disabled the "hide e-mail address" with this post, send me your e-mail address and I'll reply with name and phone number of the guy who has a WD to part out.

Good Luck!

Good Day!

I have seen WD boxes with the raised "Bosses" that are just a round section... My WD-45 has that type of section, with an elongation, laterally that would definitely be stronger... I have seen those broken, too...!! Never put the PTO in gear, before you but the transmission in gear.. that stops the gears, and you are less likely to break a tooth off a gear..!!! I don't know about part numbers, but I know there are two different ones..!!!

If you broke the lower gear, or lower housing, be SURE to check the rest of the gears...a tooth may be broken on one of them, and that means splitting the tractor... Be sure you get the lower housing for a WD-45, and not just for a WD.. the 45 had a stronger casting. As far as finding a casting, and gears... Keep asking, posting, and looking at adds for AC..you should be able to find one in a scrap yard..possibly even a dealer may still have one...
