I had water in the transmission so I drained by removing the front two plugs and refilled but when I start the tractor the fluid takes on a milky appearance like I am not getting all of the watery fluid out. Do I need to remove another plug?

When you drain the transmission you need to remove the plug on the bottom of the p.t.o. The p.t.o. holds about 1 quart of oil in it. You also should drain the differential becouse the oil flows from the tranny to the diff. Hope this helps. I am not shure if you need to drain the torque tube or not, I guess I probably would if the tranny got watter in it the torque tube quite possibly could have to.

Yep, you need to remove each of the 3 plugs at the bottom of the PTO unit, the tranny and the differential. It will take about 17 Quarts of 90 Wt gear oil to refill your tractor. When you refill, you must fill utilizing BOTH of the two pipe plugs on the LH side of the tractor; one ahead of and one behind the clutch lockout latch.

Guys- I don't think 90W is right. My service manual says 20W non-detergent.

The plug in the transmission is in the sheetmetal plate bolted to the bottom of the transmission.

I don't know what late manuals say, but the story on the 56 45 we had on the farm where I worked as a kid was that it had 20 weight engine oil in the transmission as the dealer said it was a "factory fox" for a properly adjusted but slipping hand clutch. Mostly you hear of using gear oil here. I would think the "tractor lubes" would work too and are thinner. A thinner oil will allow the hand clutch to release better so it is possible to shift more without using the engine clutch. Used to do this all the time once the oil was warm. Used the hand clutch most of the time, including loading manure into the spreader.

Nate, You're referring to the hydraulics; 20W non-detergent.
