I have been casually looking for a wide front end for my WD45. Most adds I see are for a front end that fits WD,WD45, WD45Diesel. I have been told by various local farmers that the WD wide front won't fit on a WD45. What's the real truth. I don't want to spend the money on something that won't fit. Thanks, Dennis.

The WD and early WD45s are exactly the same with a 3 bolt front pivot plate. The later WD45s have a 4 bolt pivot plate since the 3 bolt plate was prone to tear the bolt out of the casting with rough use. They are all interchangeable as a whole assembly.

David is right, but I will add a bit. Wide front ends can also be put in WCs. Late 45 steering boxes have a bolt on flange on the bottom allowing you to bolt on a narrow, single, or steering arm for a wide front end. If it is a WC, WD, or 45 any front end from any of them will fit and work.

Ditto- the wide front fits because the frame width is the same. Doesn't matter if it is a three or four bolt front end- that is on the pedestal----- --frame it fints into is the same, even if it is not original with the WC.

The later 4-plate unit is better than the earlier 3 bolt plate unit. Either will fit, as long as you get all the original pieces, including the front pedestal that matches the plate. The tricycle pedestal won't work.

The late steering boxes will work for different front ends that bolt on, as I stated above. I don't think there are many of them though, but my parts book shows all the parts.

The way I read the parts manual, the "front support" for the WFE is the same as that for the single wheel FE. There is a "dual wheel" (tricycle) support ass'y (pedestal) that was available to convert an existing WFE tractor to NFE without replacing the "front support". I've never seen one of these babys; I assume they are rare as "hens teeth".

Saying pedestal was a poor choice of words on my part. Technically I guess pedestal would refer to only the narrow front end. Steering box is probably what the big chunk of cast is called.
