HYD LIFT PROBLEM ON A CA TRACTOR

My lift does not stay up even with the tractor running and the PTO engaged, but slowly lowers itself. The pressure is bleeding off and I suspect it may be the pump. My question is, "How hard is it to rebuilt the hyd pump?" Or do you guys think the problem is else where in the system. Thanks in advance, your help is most appreciated.

sid is right that you would normally expect the valve to be leaking. i think you will find on the CA that the valve and pump are a combination unit. at the right rear of the tractor there is a 4 inch cube "box" that is the pump and valve combination. the hose screws into it. you remove 4 3/8 nuts and lift the pump out of the PTO case. It is a high pressure, low volumn pump. there are a series of balls and springs inside and you have a piece of dirt or rust under one of the seats. i would suggest you get a book that covers the description, unless you think you are overly mechanically inclinded. there are also guys on this board that will rebuild it for you for a price.

I would suspect a leaky valve or something other than the pump. You say the pressure is bleeding off, so it seeems to me the pump is not the first place to look perhaps a small leak in o hose or fitting.

Thanks for your assitance Sid, never worked on one of these, so didn't have much of and idea where to start.
