I noticed today hauling manure on the road going up hill in high gear that the clutch or power director seems to slip alittle. If I throttle it back alittle it seems to catch up. I dont have much experince working on ACs. But I have worked on Deeres for 10 years. Where should I start on trying to find the problem? The pump is turned up at 200hp is that too much for the clutch or power director? Or could I have low pump pressure? Bad clutch? Also the tractor is really hard to shift in and out of gear. I need to push the clutch really hard to stop from grinding gears. Thanks for any help.

Your slippage could very well be in the torque limiter (a big slip clutch mounted on the flywheel). 200 hp may be too much for it.

Tom, thank you for replying. Is there any way to tell for sure it is the torque limiter without splitting the tractor? Also could that be the reason for having to push the clutch so hard to shift gears?

As to your question regarding whether the tractor must be split to diagnose a faulty torque limiter--I honestly don't know. I doubt if the torque limiter is the cause of your shifting problems. We have a 7060 that the torque limiter has been beefed up by adding another belleville(sp?) spring. This helps to eliminate some slippage problems, but care is advised at higher hp settings, as it sort of negates the original purpose of the torque limiter. Don't know how much help this is, but it's about the best I've got to offer. Good luck. TomF

My experience has been that most torque limiter slippage is from a leaky rear oil seal. You can generally tell if it is in fact the torque limiter slipping by slowing down the engine speed and see if it stops slipping. Most oily TL's will slip when starting out in road gear. There is a sheild made to stop oil from getting on the TL. If you determine that it is slipping, replace rear seal and add a sheild while your in it. The flywheel may need to be resufaced as well.
