hd6 chutches brake adjustment

I need to try to adjust the chutches & brakes . They work somewhat when you first start operating then they slowly go away. thanks for any help.

I have the late model HD5G,and the early HD6 models adjust the same; if so here goes:

Steering clutch adjustment is 1-3" of free travel on each lateral. Pull till you feel clutches start to engage; if 1-3" fine, if not adj. Free travel will decrease with wear. Adjust linkage by removing pin and changing rod length. Use a yard-stick held horizontal from dash to laterals.

Brake free travel is 1 3/4 - 2" free travel on each pedal. Adjustment is made by removing brake band hole access cover and adjusting band nut. There is a band supporting screw at bottom (access)that is jammed when adjustments final. Brakes are adjusted in 1/2 turn increments to accomodate lobes on adjuster.

BTW--I bought my manual on ebay for $5 plus shipping, a good investment. Parts cost me $9.

A great site to get some help and info is called www.ibdozing.com they have the different boards for the different makes. You can do a search there and come up with lots of great info under clutch or brakes. hth Mike
