My sons were out driving around yesterday and one shifted as the other was pushing in the clutch. Now I am stuck in low gear and the shifter appears to be in nuetral. Do I just take the cover off or the shifter out to get to the push rods to try and get out of first? Or, is it more serious than that?

I believe you can just take the shifter rod out, and look down there with a flashlight in one hand, and a screw driver in the other, and get the forks in nutral again. Worn shifter is your problem

Underneath the rubber boot, you should find a snap ring and a washer. Below that you will see the ball portion of the shift lever. If it is a WD, there will be a slot on one side (WD45 has a slot on each side). In that slot is a square-headed pin that fits into a round hole in the shifter tower. Do not lose that. Pull the shift lever straight up, and use a flashlight to see inside, while using a large screwdriver to realign all three shifter forks. Then reassemble.
