Need one, maybe two, front rims for 1938 B. This is NOT the later wheel with five lugs. This is the wheel/rim with no center section, like an Farmall/Intntl. It was only used for two or three years. If not, what's a good replacment? Will the Farmall rim work? Regards, Rich

Well there were really two styles of front wheels before the five bolt kind... I have seen '38 with a smooth, moon like cast center section and some clamps and bolts (not unlike the rears). The '39 that I am slowly restoring, had the stamped metal ones. On those the center hub is held to the wheel with 6 rivets. Those apear to have been used from late '38 to late '40 or early '41. The two that came on my tractor were swiss cheese by the time that I sand blasted them... It was a lot of looking for any others and I ended up getting another one that was bent, swiss cheese and not salvagable... I ended up getting a set of 5 bolt hubs. Months later I found a set of the '39 six rivet style and have cleaned those up and plan on using those... I got mine from Roger Van Camp (260-747-3455) but you might have better luck catching his son (Don Van Camp 260-622-7360 or [email protected]). If they don't have any more, I have a set of 5 bolt hubs that I have fully cleaned up and painted that I would love to sell....

Thanks

Chris, Thanks for the info. Maybe there's a third method, that doesn't sound like the way there fastened to the machine. Mine has a cast iron center hub that the rim fits over. It is held in place by four odd 7/16 bolts. These bolts have a tapered, square head. I've never seen anything like them before. They go in at 45 deg. and clamp as they are tightened. This machine is ser # 85??. I've to forge them myself. Replacements cannot be found. Regards, Rich

Rich: I also am going to need those wheels. I have found them in Miller Tire cataloge. I am also going to need two of the bolts if you come by any. Dave.

Dave, Thanks for the info. Can you tell me what you paid for them? And where I can get a catalog. I'm thinking of investigating using International farmall rims if feasible. The bolts are easy to make. Take a regular 7/16 X 2" long hexhead and heat it. When it reaches dull Cherry red, then hammer it to shape. Takes about fifteen minutes. Regards, Rich
