I have a '48 G that I actually use for row cultivation. It has the manual lift lever. Can anyone tell me where I can get information on how to convert this to a hydraulic system? My arm is getting sore.

Dear E. Wells: I have changed a few G's from the old manual lift cultivator to hydraulic. After looking back I think the conversion I like best is where I used an electric-hydraulic pump that is used for lifing snow plows. This means you would have to change the tractor to 12 volts and probably use an alternator. I bought a couple of hydraulic cylinders form a supply house to raise the cultivator and made the brackets to attach them to the tractor and cultivators. This is not the cheapest way to do the conversion, but I think it is the cleanest, neatest way and it gives you live hydraulic power to operate the cultivators which is more then you would have on the origional AC "G" setup. Of course there are several ways of doing a conversion, the ones I did using a belt driven hydraulic pump was not as clean and neat as the electric-hydraulic, but they were cheaper. I think you need to make your own decission regarding the amount of money you want to spend. If you want to set it up with the original hydraulic lift, call "Wengers Farm Machinery, at 1-800-451-5240. They have a lot of used parts for the AC "G" and may have the what you need.

you could mount a power steering pump from a car get a control valve and cylinder and mount it all up thats what I did on a B farmall to lift a sickle mower by the way most power steering pumps off of cars put out about 1500psi

I use two AC G tractors that were converted with Ford power steering units about 35 years ago. They work very well.
