my 58 series I d17 lost its oil pressure after changing the oil. it runs perfect and doesn't knock a bit, just doesn't show much oil pressure all of a sudden ( the "n" of normal, prior to this oil change on "r" of normal) any thoughts? It drops below normal range after it warms up. I've had the tractor for 3 years and not had any problems yet.

If your eng ser. no. is 17-19978 or higher, all of this filter talk doesn't apply. This engine has a full flow filter system and the stuffed filters won't fit. AC changed the block, cam,& oil pump, along with the filter adaptor.

Two possible solutions. One is the filter as has been discussed. You need a filter with rag waste visible above a perforated bottom plate with a wood dowell sticking out of it. The dowell keeps the rag waste open so the filter can accept the tube sticking up from your filter base, which is solution two, You do have the tube sticking up from the filter base?? Without it you will not have enough back pressure from the filter to geve you good oil pressure. Go back in the archives, there is quite a bit about this problem there. Napa (at least mine) sitll has the wrong filters, checked Friday as I wanted one.

May be the oil filter... The original oil filters have enough restriction to keep oil flow to a reduced level, so as not to bleed off oil pressure... I have heard of some after-market filters that allow too much flow, and can reduce oil pressure...be careful of these...!! If you are using the same gauge, and weight of oil, the oil pressure should be the same as before...!!

any leaks like at the filter did you add enough oil i.e. is it low on oil wrong filter or going from a stright grade oil to a multigrade??

did you use a new NAPA FILTER-- they had a batch of bad filters that was described earlier also AGCO had the same problem --but rectified theirs
