Would someone tell me the drawbar and PTO ratings of a WD and CA. Also the fuel consumption rates. I have a WD that is used for running a 7 foot bush hog and am considering upgrading to a WD-45. Also considering getting a CA to run a 5 or 6 foot bush hog. Will a CA handle a 6-foot 3-point bush hog or should I consider a 5 footer? Thanks in advance..... ..... ...RP

The WD-45 is Great for Bushoging...just have a good slip clutch--adjusted properly to take the shock out of the drive line....!!!! You DON'T want to tear out that pto...!! Adjust that slip clutch at least once a year, and let it slip a little to be sure it is operating..!! My WD-45 is real easy on fuel for bushoging...I leave the power needle turned in a 1/4 turn for that... Then, for plowing (4x14" semi-mounted) I open it up that 1/4 turn for more power... Dark--to--dark, I can use almost 3 tanks but get a LOT done..!! Maybe about 25 acres... Bushoging, I don't use much over a tank in a long day..( 13 gal)..

R. Picker: Those other guys gave you lots of good info. Here's a bit more.
CA 24.8 PTO hp 125 CID gas
WD 36 PTO hp 201 CID gas
WD-45 45 PTO hp 226 CID gas

I would take any of the above tractors each is good at various tasks.
If your just cutting down hay and wild grass the CA will make you proud.
If you want to whack heavier saplings or get a job done faster go with the bigger engine options.

CA = 24.79 belt HP and 2.10 gal/hr
WD = 32.57 belt HP and 2.77 gal/hr
WD45 = 40.47 belt HP and 3.28 gal/hr.

A CA won't get much done with a 6 foot mower behind it.....I have 6 footer behind a 50hp tractor and it works the crap out of it at times. A lot depends on what you want to cut.

In the spring I mow grass & weeds that are fairly heavy and from 3 ft to 5 ft tall. In the fall I mow mostly sage grass & weeds that are 2 ft to 3 ft tall. I would be using the CA mostly for trimming around trees, since my present bush hog is a pull type and can't turn very short.

I find it is just as easy to carry my weed wacker along and do the close trimming with it. No matter how good you are, you can't do a decent job around trees with a brush hog.....even if it is mounted. Invest in a good weed wacker that takes the heavy triangular cross section line....and you'll have a professional looking job when you are done.

You can calculate the maximum fuel usage from the Nebraska tests. Just take the max HP and divide it by the hp hours per gallon. For example the CA had a max belt hp of 24.79 and made 11.79 hp hours per gallon of gas. Divide 24.79 by 11.79 and you get a max fuel usage of 2.10 gallons per hour.

OK, guys, the fuel consumption info has been right on, but the hp ratings are different than my Nebraska Tractor Test info. Here that is:

CA: Test 453, 25.96 max belt hp, 22.97 drawbar
(on gasoline)

WD: Test 440, 34.63 max belt hp, 30.23 drawbar
(on gasoline)

WD45: Test 499, 43.21 max belt hp, 37.84 drawbar
(on gasoline)

All that from Norm Swinford's book (which uses the Nebraska "test C" if I remember right). I'd have to get my Nebraska Tractor test book and check the hp-hours per gallon figures.
