THere is no need to change the polarity of the tractor just so someone can jump start it. You just hook positive of one vehicle to positive on the other. Just make the last connection on the vehicle with the dead battery to a place on the frame where you'll get good contact. Neither vehicle will care if one is a positive ground and the other is negative as long as you just hook positive to positive and neg to neg. You would also need to find a voltage regulator for you tractor if you wanted to make that switch. It would be money wasted for no gain at all.

Thanks, Dan D. I've been jumping off our old D-15 with my old Chevy truck (neg ground) for years. Never hurt a thing. Was leery of adding my two cents worth, though.

--change the battery cables
--change the amp meter cables
--repolarize the generator by touching the battery and "A" terminals on the voltage regulator, with tractor off.
--start tractor.

Don't you have to change the regulator, too?

Change the two coil leads too. Otherwise, it is simple and straightforward. Going to negative ground has an advantage if you decide to put some newer 12 volt accessories (like a radio or things llike that) on the tractor.
