I have seen it in books, and have even seen it on a video, but how many were made. I haven't seen any around central NY anywhere. I may be looking for the "needle in the haystack". Is there just not enough of then to bother looking? If there was an opertunity I would like to get one for the 48 b I have. Lets see if you guys may know where they all are. thanks ED

First - Good luck... these are rare birds (only made 3 yrs - about 15,000) They are around though. I posted a picture here of one that sold north of Binghamton a while ago. Not many people at the sale, it went very cheap. I have 2, a bin model and a bagger model. Wouldn't part with them for anything. One was from the family, the other I spied on a back road in a collapsed shed. I was able track down the owner and after getting to know him, and taking many pictures, he sold it to me. These were made for the B, and they can handle it, but you can put an auxilary engine on it. I think they are the most fascinating model A/C made, just really, really hard to find now. I have been to many scrapyards, searching for parts, etc. and you don't find them. (If I did, I would do my best to grab them)

Again, good luck.

PS Most of them were made in 1940, '38's are really, really rare.... I can post serial numbers if you want....

We used one in western WI when I was a kid. It was used to combine soybeans. With 40 inch rows, we could only do one row at a time (groan). Otherwise, it did a darn nice job and the grain was extremely clean. We pulled it with a WD, but I don't know how well a B or C would handle it - especially as the hopper fills. Using it on a grain that puts more straw through the machine might have some bearing on how much HP you need.

As to where to find one... I suppose just keep your eye out in the back rows of the old implement dealers. I would imagine you would have better luck locating one in places where there were smaller fields and also in hilly country.
