Model C brake lining replacement

Hi Y'All...been awhile since I have been to the forum. Hope you're all doin' well.

Has anyone out there had experience with changing the brake linings on a C? It's time I got brakes on the little workhorse. I've been soaking down the adjustment nut with PK Blaster every chance I get and trying to work the nuts back and forth to break them free from all the years of setting-up.

I know I can get linings or even new assemblies, but can I get the t-bolts if I end up breaking them? What sort of a job is it to pull the linings out? And how much harder is it to get them back in? Are there any tricks someone can pass along?

I appreciate your help! Hope all of you in harvest are having good luck.

i replaced a set of linings on my dads c 2years ago. he bought the tractor new back in the 40`s and i had the same fears! but as you are doing i soaked them for weeks ahead of time and had no problem with breakage. it did seem to me though that the originals were much harder to pull out then it was to place the new ones back in. the only thing i did to aid myself was attached a 5/16" nylon rope to the keeper pin that i reinstalled on the old lining and when i pulled out the old i had the rope already run around the "drum" to help pull the new one down around and up. seemed to me like it didn`t take that awful long to complete the job. good luck,john in pa.

Thanks John...that's a good idea about the rope. i'll let you know how it comes out. bet your fall colors are as bright in Pa. as they are beginning to be here. Dave
